At least when I worked a long day I got a few solid hours of sleep in a row before I went back. Now, I’m lucky to get 2 or 3 before I’m up for another 2 or 3.

We both decided to “pick a baby” for the overnight periods. I took Max because he is a lot slower at eating, thus giving Brenda Andrew who can polish off a bottle in 10-15 minutes, and is then ready for sleep. I want her to get as much rest as possible during her recovery period, and while I’m still home.

But lately, Max seems to love the night life. Once he’s fed (which can take over an hour) he doesn’t want to sleep and if you’re not holding him or talking to him or holding his pacifier in his mouth so it doesn’t fall out, he cries. So, it’s actually possible for him to be awake from one feeding to the next – and then you start the process all over again before you got a second of sleep!

And during the day, it’s the complete opposite. Give him a bottle and when he’s done with it he’s sound asleep.

I no longer know what time of the day it is, let alone what day of the week.
