  • Preparing for Take Off

Now that all the work is done, I’m spending a few days getting all of the equipment ready for the trip next week. Three years ago when I went to Hong Kong I had a whole cart full of equipment to do the job. This year, I’ll be able to fit almost all of the equipment into my normal suitcase. Why? The power of the laptop has grown by leaps and bounds, and things you couldn’t imagine doing 10 years ago, even on a desktop system, are now possible. Add to that the fact that we’re not even shooting on video tape anymore, it’s all memory cards and hard drives.

Packed up and ready to leave Hong Kong, July 2004. The cart on the right is mine, the one on the left belongs to the cameraman.

  • It’s been Crazy!

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s been pretty crazy over the last several weeks. One of our biggest jobs always comes down to last minute deadlines in May/June every year, all leading up to a trip somewhere (that’s part of the same job). This year it’s Bangkok Thailand, and I leave on Monday June 16th for a 2 week trip.

Anyway, if your curious, some of the videos that we’ve been working on are posted here and click on any of the “web approval” links.  They may seem to be a bit odd in size, but the final presentation is made on a 70′ wide and will be setup in a huge arena for about 20,000 people to see. It will be the 91st annual Lions Convention for 2008. I have personally been working on these videos for the convention for about 15 years.

This week and part of next is when it all comes to an end and needs to be done so the schedule should get back to normal soon (except for me going half way around the world for 2 weeks). Brenda has been doing very well and is really quite active with the boys. She takes them everywhere now and no longer feels tied to the house like she was back in January. The boys are doing great as usual and are just a joy to be around. They have major personality differences, but they both have a pretty strong temper. It will be interesting to see how that plays out as they get older. But there’s not a day that goes by that we don’t talk about how blessed we are with these boys.

So how can I end the post without some photos of the boys. Here are a few “cool” photos of them getting ready to go see grandma a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

  • Where have you been Tom!? I’m very upset with you!

This is that time of year that our business is at its peek. Many video projects to get done, looming deadlines, and it all ends with a big 2 week international trip, this year to Bangkok Thailand. And so for the last several weeks, and for the next several, it’s basically just work for me. So I didn’t forget about the blog, I didn’t lose interest, and most importantly I did not get hit by a bus.

Here are a few photos from the Tomchak family visit from Detroit a few weekends ago. The rest are on the Flickr page.

In brief, the boys are doing great. They’re growing in and out of clothing very fast, they’re eating more (and on soft foods now), and they laugh and smile a lot. The best thing about coming home is having them see me walk in and then start to smile. It’s the most precious gift!

Brenda is doing well and has become a great “twin mom”. She’s got her systems in place, her schedule, and has gotten used to taking the boys pretty much anywhere she wants to go. Now that it’s warmer she is no longer confined to the house all the time.

I have some really good video to share as well but it will probably be awhile before I have time to get it together.

I’m going to try to do a once a week posting (or more if I can) every Sunday night. And while I’m in Thailand I’ll also be doing posts with photos and video.

    That’s all for now!

  • Day 10 – In the Home Stretch!

Today is the last day of our living room remodel. Both Jim and Greg are working hard today to make sure it’s all done before they leave. As you can see, the lovely TV is now on the wall. It’s not even plugged in yet, but it’s still nice having it there. I have a feeling I’ll be up late tonight playing.

I just miss them so much!
