Recent Heavy Rains

By on September 17, 2008 in Photo Post, Text Post with 0 Comments

Before I left for China we got some pretty heavy rain in our area. There was a long stream of storms from as far south as the Gulf of Mexico winding up through the Chicago area and continuing past us through the midwest. Most of the rain was the remnants of recent hurricanes that hit the south.

A few blocks from our house is a train station and parking lot. The lot is at a very low point in the neighborhood, so when there is a lot of rain (it has to be several hours straight) the lot can’t drain fast enough. If it keeps up long enough the lot starts to turn into a swimming pool. The last time this happened was about 8 years ago and I’ve been watching for it to happen again so I could take photos (last time I was having too much fun driving my jeep through it to think about taking photos).

The last time it happened it was on a week day so the lot was full of cars. This time there were only a few unlucky people since it was a Saturday.
