Twins, Plus 1

I have finally been given official approval from the tower to announce we’re having another baby. Brenda is now 11 weeks pregnant and had this ultrasound today.

I’m going to answer some of the most popular questions that are sure to come up.

Wow, I didn’t even though you were trying! That’s great news!
Yes, it’s great news, but we were not trying. We were planning on making that decision in December of this year, but things don’t always work out like you plan. And given the fact that for 3 years we couldn’t get pregnant, we’re taking this as a genuine blessing. Aside form the initial first week or so it took us to get over the shock, we’re very excited.

The last time you used fertility treatments. I take it you didn’t do that this time.
Nope. Funny how things changed like that. We were told that after the first birth that might be the case, but the odds were pretty low so we didn’t worry about it so much. The jokes on us!

That is so weird, because didn’t you just book a fantastic 1 week cruise vacation with a penthouse cabin with balcony? How the heck are you going to take your vacation now?
We’re not. I have to officially cancel it this week and hope I get back the 170,000 miles I cashed in for the trip.

Are you hoping for a boy or girl?
We’re hoping for a healthy baby human.

Are you going to find out the sex of your baby before hand?
No, sorry. We’re excited about the surprise.

Will you be sharing your possible name choices with family and friends?
No. Anybody who has done that knows how many opinions you end up getting and this is something we want to do as a couple.

What is the due date?
Right now, the first week in December. I can’t remember the exact day, and they will probably change it anyway.

When Brenda was pregnant with the twins, both your sister Dawn and cousin Joy were also both pregnant within weeks or months of each other. I hear that’s true again.
It is true, both my sister and Joy are pregnant (my sister may already be having the baby before I finish writing this). As for why it’s happening, we don’t know but Brenda is going to probably be nervous the next time one of them is pregnant again.

How is Brenda taking all of this?
Very well. That’s not to say that she doesn’t have some “OMG” moments every so often when the twins are screaming and throwing food while running into the walls and she has to ask herself “how is this going to be possible with one more!”. But most of the time she’s good.

How are you doing Tom? Are you freaked out?
Initially, yes. But I’ve always wanted a big family so in my heart it made me happy. In my brain it made me wonder at what point we should start living out of the car since we’ll be more broke then Enron.

Looking back, it almost seems like you were dropping hints on the blog and on FaceBook. Were you?
Yes. And yes, it’s why we ended up getting the minivan when we did. You kinda don’t have a choice once you go over 2, it’s either a minivan or a SUV.

So needless to say, as much as our life has changed, we’re about to open a new chapter in the book of life. As much work as it’s been for both of us (Brenda especially) I have to say I wouldn’t change a thing (except to have booked that vacation a lot sooner).

Congratulations Tom and Brenda and Andrew and Max, I am so happy for your little beautiful family. Now that you figured out how this works (all by yourselves), you will probably want to learn how to turn it off at will, lol!
