  • Thanksgiving Basket Project

Thanksgiving Basket Project, the first project for the Chicago Windy City Lions.

As previously posted, Brenda and I are now members of the Windy City Lions Club. This Thanksgiving was the first scheduled project, were a handful of families were selected to receive a full Thanksgiving dinner, based on their own interest and taste.

While Brenda and I were not able to be an active part of this project, it was a clear success and made us both very happy to have joined the club. We are planning on being part of a project in the next two weeks with Lens Crafters where children who need glasses will be examined and fitted for glasses.

During this time of economic uncertainty, it’s really nice to put some efforts into helping others that are really in need of more.

You can find out more about the Thanksgiving project and see some photos by visiting the club website at www.WindyCityLions.org.

  • One Week of No Pacifiers

Last Wednesday we made the decision to pack up all of the pacifiers and cut the boys off cold turkey. Our pediatrician recommended that we get rid of them between the 6-12 month mark due to their teeth coming in, and from what we read the longer you wait the harder it can be. So since it was a long holiday weekend and we would both be around we decided to do it.

    The results?

While there have been some really tough moments for sure, a week later we both agree that they are going to sleep faster (they’re not looking around for the pacifier they keep losing) and they’re no longer getting up over night crying for us to put the pacifier back in their mouth. They seem to even nap a little longer.

So overall, it seems like the right move at the right time. If you want to read more about it, here is a link to an article Brenda found that really sold me on doing it now instead of waiting.

  • Big Boys need Big Chairs

We didn’t even realize it, but the boys had outgrown their original car seats, by both weight and body length. So this past weekend we upgraded their travel accommodations to 2 brand new plush seats. They honestly look more comfortable then the seats in the front that we sit in.

Brenda did a lot of research and came up with a seat from Graco called the Nautilus 3-in-1. Although it was more expensive then some of the other options, it had the best reviews on Amazon.com by people who had purchased it.

The only down side to the new chairs is that we can’t just lift the chairs from the base and carry them in. For example, whenever we would go out to eat we would just carry the chairs in and request a large booth so that we would each sit with one of the boys. Now, not only do we have to carry them in but they have to sit in a high chair. In theory it sounds OK, but they are just too excited and too unrestrained for us to really relax at all. But, like everything else, we’ll adjust.

Here is a short video of their trip to Chili’s, and their first treat to sitting at the table while being out.

  • Max is Ready for the Next Trip

When I got home Max decided to make himself at home in my suitcase. It got me thinking that maybe next time I could just take him with me as long as I made sure he had a few bottles and extra diapers to change himself during the trip.
