    I know we’re late to the party on this one. Our kids have not been brushing daily and even though they’re 4 and 6 years old they’ve never had a checkup. We always planned on it but never got around to it. It was always just one more thing out of reach of our schedules. Finally, because we were prompted by the school, we got around to it.

    This past weekend the boys both had their checkup and next Saturday Sydney will have hers.

    Both boys were amazing. Max was more nervous than Andrew, but they both went through it like champs. The biggest issue with Max was that he kept wanting to taste everything they put in his mouth. He even ate all of the fluoride that they normally have to suction out. The two visits back to back were close to 2 hours after all of the paperwork and everything was done and Sydney was great at patiently waiting in the lobby with Mom (mom was very patient as well).

    In the end, they both had perfect teeth without any cavities. Given how little sugar they have in their diet, I wasn’t surprised.

    The Langham Hotel (330 North Wabash Avenue , Chicago, IL) was my home for a 24 hour period recently. I was on-site to edit 36 short videos in about 12 hours time, and to deliver them all by 7am the next morning. While, on paper, it was a pretty easy job – it turned out to be somewhat of a challenge because of my recent switch from Final Cut Pro 7 to Adobe Premiere CC. The job itself went great right up until it was time to export all 36 sequences. That’s when I started having major issues, including offline media (that wasn’t really offline at all), hold frame issues and on and on. If I had had a single sequence it wouldn’t have been a issue, but because I had 36 I ended up being up all hours of the night making sure things were going to be ready in time.

    While this may come off as complaining it’s really not. I expected problems and unexpected surprises when I decided to switch this year and I have not been let down. And if I was going to be stuck doing a long edit anywhere, being in a 5-star hotel in Chicago is not the worst place to be. It was actually pretty awesome.

    So as it became obvious toward the end of the day that the edit was going to go into the evening hours, the client arranged for me to have a room in the same hotel I was working (The Langham). It was hands down one of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in. I couldn’t help myself from ordering room service at 2am just because I could.

    All in all I had a great time on this job and it’s always fun to get out of the office and do something different. 

  • Expanded Storage on MacBook Pro

    Expanded Storage on MacBook Pro

    The only downside to the Apple Laptops is that these days expanding the storage beyond what is already inside can be impossible or prohibitively expensive. But not anymore.

    With my simple and effective solution, you too can add several more terabytes of storage. This is my recent 2-TB upgrade. All you need is a roll of gaffers or painters tape.

    Well 2014 is starting with a bang!

    Just when we thought all 3 kids were out of the woods, Sydney came down with the Chicken Pops (that’s what the kids are calling it and I laugh every time). And she has it way worse than Andrew did. But all things considered she’s handling it pretty well. I can tell how uncomfortable she is and she has not been sleeping good at all.

    Max has not had it at all, but was just as equally exposed so for all we know he’s planning on having it in another 2-3 weeks just as Sydney has recovered.

    Last night she was in such a good slaphappy mood that I let her stay up late and we made popcorn together and sat on the couch watching TV. She was in rare form and in a crazy funny mood. It was such a good time.

    Editing at Macy’s in Chicago Today

    Today I’m working with a group of friends (it’s always great working with a crew you know – and this one is the A-Team) on a B-Roll package for Macy’s National Believe Day. It’s always fun coming to the city now and then, even with the traffic getting here.  It’s pretty nice being in the iconic Marshall Fields building too, up on one of the restricted floors.
