  • How do you say goodbye to an old friend?

We may have only known him for the last 10 years, but 42 year old GE Air-conditioner (we called him Mr. Coolie) pushed out his last cold breath on Friday. Time of death is estimated at 7:39am.

Brenda is quoted as saying “Early that morning I heard a loud scream and crashing noise from the yard. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but later when Rachel called (our Nanny) and told me the house was 125 degrees and that the boys hair kept catching fire, I knew in my gut that Mr. Coolie was gone”.

Memorial services will be held sometime this week when Mr. Coolie’s replacement (Mr. Efficient) is brought in to take over his duties.

Mr. Coolie, we will miss hearing your loud clanging startup sounds and unheard of high electric bills. May you be in a better place now.

  • Joel Osteen in Chicago

We purchased tickets a few months ago, but tonight we finally went to the Joel Osteen show in Chicago at the United Center. For those unfamiliar with him, he is head of a non-denominational ministry based in Huston Texas that my mom turned me onto over a year ago. Actually, she kept pestering me to listen to him and I only did once I realized he had a podcast I could download. Once I listened to the first one I was hooked.

His teachings are very uplifting, inspirational, and hopeful and can really turn your thoughts around if you’re having a rough day.

To find out more you can check out his web site, or download his podcast on iTunes.

Just a few years ago I would not have imagined going to an event like this, much less enjoying it. But it was really quite amazing. Thanks Mom!

  • iPhone – Now more distracting then before!

So if it wasn’t enough that you could do web browsing, email, SMS Text Messaging, watch movies and listen to music, now with the new updated software you can do about 500 new things (if you so choose to do all 500 things that is).

I have downloaded several free applications, as well as a few inexpensive paid applications that are making my phone even more useful. For example, my to-do lists and projects that I’m working on that I normally keep track of on my computer automatically sync to my phone now as changes are made. And if changes are made on my iPhone, the changes update on my computer as they are done!

    I love being a nerd.

  • Back Home – Michigan Photos

We made much better time coming home then we did going to MI. Traveling at night seems to be the key, and I think we’ll be doing a lot more of it. They normally go to bed around 7pm, which is a great time to travel. No traffic, and no delays through the many constructions zones on I-94 right now.

Here are a few photos, and  you can find more on Flickr. I should have some video posted later this week.

  • In Michigan for the Weekend

Since we were unable to make the trip last weekend for the family reunion, we made a last minute decision to visit the family this weekend instead. We’re here until Sunday night when we’ll drive back starting at 8pm in hopes of making better time then we did coming into Detroit. Due to traffic and non-stop construction, it took us 8 hours to make it here. That’s the longest it has taken, with the only exception being a snow storm trip that took 12.

On the up side, we got some great mileage. We averaged over 50 miles per gallon over 300 miles, a new personal best! Normally it’s in the low to mid 40’s. So it took less then a half tank of gas to get here with a 12 gallon tank. Not to bad!

Photos later, as well as some video of Madison.
