  • On the plane for LA. We still …

On the plane for LA. We still feel confident that we’ll make our connecting flight.

  • Delayed flight…

It was almost a cancelled flight, so I’m glad it is only a delay now. There were technical issues with the plane, so they finally found us a new plane and we leave at 7:55pm now (instead of 5:15). The only issue now is that we only have about 40 minutes once we get to LA to catch our connecting flight to Bangkok! If we miss that one, we’ll be in LA for 24 hours since that is a once a day flight.

So, we’re hoping that the flight does not leave any later then 7:55pm at this point.

With any luck, the next time I post I’ll actually be there. The only way I’ll have time to post in LA is if we miss our flight.

  • On the way… Thailand here we come!

The first of 3 flights starts shortly (we hope anyway, we’re in a delay at the moment). From Chicago we fly to LA and have a 3 hour stay at the airport. From there we fly to Bangkok and have a 1 hour stay in Bangkok. And from there we fly to Chang Mai (I might be spelling that wrong). I’ll photos later, for now it’s a bit of a pain to break out all of the cables and the camera. I forgot to make the memory stick reader easier to access.

I’m traveling with 4 other people on this trip. 2 cameramen, and and 2 producers. We have 19 checked bags total (plus 1 carry on each).

  • Preparing for Take Off

Now that all the work is done, I’m spending a few days getting all of the equipment ready for the trip next week. Three years ago when I went to Hong Kong I had a whole cart full of equipment to do the job. This year, I’ll be able to fit almost all of the equipment into my normal suitcase. Why? The power of the laptop has grown by leaps and bounds, and things you couldn’t imagine doing 10 years ago, even on a desktop system, are now possible. Add to that the fact that we’re not even shooting on video tape anymore, it’s all memory cards and hard drives.

Packed up and ready to leave Hong Kong, July 2004. The cart on the right is mine, the one on the left belongs to the cameraman.

  • It’s been Crazy!

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s been pretty crazy over the last several weeks. One of our biggest jobs always comes down to last minute deadlines in May/June every year, all leading up to a trip somewhere (that’s part of the same job). This year it’s Bangkok Thailand, and I leave on Monday June 16th for a 2 week trip.

Anyway, if your curious, some of the videos that we’ve been working on are posted here and click on any of the “web approval” links.  They may seem to be a bit odd in size, but the final presentation is made on a 70′ wide and will be setup in a huge arena for about 20,000 people to see. It will be the 91st annual Lions Convention for 2008. I have personally been working on these videos for the convention for about 15 years.

This week and part of next is when it all comes to an end and needs to be done so the schedule should get back to normal soon (except for me going half way around the world for 2 weeks). Brenda has been doing very well and is really quite active with the boys. She takes them everywhere now and no longer feels tied to the house like she was back in January. The boys are doing great as usual and are just a joy to be around. They have major personality differences, but they both have a pretty strong temper. It will be interesting to see how that plays out as they get older. But there’s not a day that goes by that we don’t talk about how blessed we are with these boys.

So how can I end the post without some photos of the boys. Here are a few “cool” photos of them getting ready to go see grandma a few weeks ago. Enjoy!
