  • Tom, Live on the Web Tonight

Late last year I made the decision to get out of my comfort zone and try some things that I’ve been too nervous to try. I have so many big ideas of where I want to go but often let fear slow me down, or even stop me. I’ve also had a growing feeling for the last few years that I should be giving back to the industry that I work in since I have more then 20 years of experience now.

Anyway, what does this all mean? Both things kind of tie together.

This year I started a new blog (not this one) for professional use called SuiteTake.com with the goal of sharing some of what I know, my experiences and my opinions. I’ve also wanted to have more of a presence in the community in general, and this serves that purpose as well. In the bigger picture, it also helps me create a audience/following (over time hopefully) that will help with some of my future plans.

As a result to a post I recently did, I’m going to be interviewed on a live podcast radio show tonight to talk about one of the tip I posted. The show is called the Digital Production Buzz, and I’ll be on around 8:45pm CT on a segment called “Pick Our Brains”. If you happen to be by your computer at that time, you can listen to it live. Just click on the link below, and when the page opens click on “Listen To The Show”.

Needless to say, I’m terrified. But like I said, it’s all about getting out of my comfort zone this year. Wish me luck!

  • Woops!

    So Sorry

With a new site, comes new problems. If you had trouble getting onto this site yesterday it wasn’t you, it was me. Soemthing went bad with the server and everything except email went down. Due to some quick work by my technical assistant Sarosh working all the way from Canada, he was able to get things back in shape late last night.

Let’s hope it all stays working today!

  • Register for this Blog, and Make Your Own Comments

One of the new features of this site is the ability for viewers to write their own comments.

For example, if you click on any post that’s on the main page, you’ll see at the bottom of the screen a place where you can add your own public comments for us (and the boys eventually) to see. To do so, you’ll need to register for the site by creating a user account. It only takes a few seconds and you only have to do it once. After that, you’ll automatically be logged in on future visits.

If you’re interested in registering for the site, click HERE and then click on “Register”. Just as before though, you do not need to register just to visit the blog. It’s only if you want to leave comments.

  • This is my last blog post

    Andrew is NOT happy.

After thinking about it for several weeks and talking it over with Brenda, I have decided to stop making entries to this blog. I guess the more I think about it, the more I realize the boys are just not all that interesting and who really wants to hear about them anyway. Sure, the grandparents do but we’ve even felt like the grandparents have lost interest. I mean really, they’re just babies – what can they do anyway? So, like I said, this will be my last entry – in this blog.

On a very related note, I have started a new blog on our own server called “Just Another Day”. What’s the difference? There are a few.

First, and most importantly, this blog is run on my own personal server, and it was built for us. That means that 20 years down the road I’ll still have full access to this site and all of the video/photos that I have posted. This blog is hosted by another company, and that’s not to say it won’t be around in 20 years, but I didn’t want to take a chance. It would crush me to put several years of work into this and then just have it go away.

Second, I’m a total nerd. I love getting under the hood of things computer related and this site lets me get under the hood (the hood on this blog is locked). That means I can customize the blog more and add other features that are otherwise just not available.

The last biggest change, and one that I’m really looking forward to, is that Brenda will now be able to do her own blog posts separate from mine. Every post on the blog will have the name of the person who posted it, so she will be able to add her own thoughts and comments as well.

Over the next few weeks, all of the old entries from this blog will be transferred into the new one, so there will still be a complete history. Also, this site is still being tested and tweaked, so every so often a post may appear that seems out of place. Don’t be frightened.

So while this is the end of this blog, it’s really just the beginning. I hope that you enjoy the new site.

  • Another week, another 70 diapers

    img_6577.jpg

Another week under our belt and things are going well. They’re 9 weeks old today.

We’re getting more confident in taking them out now. We decided to try to go out to dinner on Saturday night since we haven’t done that for so long, and it went really well. The boys just slept in the booth with us while we ate. It was kind of liberating! We’ve see other couples do it before with even younger babies, so I guess it was our time to give it a shot. I’m sure it will not be the last.

Brenda is pretty good at taking them out on her own now too. She’s been visiting her mom on Sundays while I work on the bills and other chores, and grandma is loving the extra visits. Sometimes Aunt Trina and Aunt Bridget stop by too.

Aunt Toni has been helping out a lot as usual and the boys have really taken to her. Max tends to fall asleep in her arms frequently, and Andrew actually smiled at her as she walked in the door last time.

This week things really pick up for me at the office. I’ve been busy dealing with business related matters, but now the flood of work really hits. It’s going to be interesting to see how life at the office is without my favorite editor, Brenda.
