    Fall Toy Video

The kids recently spent some of their hard earned allowance on a few small toys from Walgreens. And because they’ve seen so many “unboxing” videos on youtube, they wanted to make one of their own. While their ramblings when on for a total of just over 30 minutes, this 8 minute video captures the best of it. Believe me, there’s nothing missed by not seeing what didn’t make the final video.

Sydney Turns 5… 8 Weeks Ago

There are so many things I was better at before having kids. One of them was finishing what I started on-time.

I started editing this video for Sydney the day after her birthday, back in late November (her Birthday was Thanksgiving Day this year). But OMG I thought I would never finish.

First, I decided to force myself to edit it using FCPx, because I’ve been curious about the recent features they’ve added. That alone added a lot of time to the process. Not because FCPx is bad… it’s actually perfect for these types of videos. But because I was learning along the way. At times I would hit a wall on something and have to stop to watch a tutorial on Lynda.com about the thing or two I was having issues with.

There was the lack of a lot of free time, especially around the holidays.

And, I kept raising the bar on what I planned on doing. It went from a simple cuts only stringer of the best of what I shot to a multi-segment music video of sorts.

In the end I was pretty happy with it, but if I had not already spent so much time on it I would spend another few hours cleaning it up more. But, sometimes you have to just draw the line and call it DONE!

So here it is,  Syndey’s 5th Birthday celebration video. It had its family premiere night tonight and the kids all had some good belly laughs.

In recent weeks Max has really taken to roll playing as a teacher. If you watch him closely while he’s “teaching” you can really get a sense of what his day is probably like.

While he normally tries to recruit is brother or sister to be his students (Sydney usually goes along with it, Andrew not so much), this time he found comfort in a small herd of tiny ponies.

In case you’re wondering why he kind of looks like a pirate with a big patch on his eye, let me explain. We have to patch his left eye every day for at least 2 hours. We normally do this as soon as he gets up in the morning. So he has no eye injury, we are just trying to boost the vision of his right eye so that they’re closer to the same strength.

Christmas In October! Thank You Aunt Shirley!

A few weeks ago the kids received a surprise from the mail man. Left on the porch was a box of joy, from none other than Santa Aunt Shirley.

It took us about a week to finally open the box (we knew we would need to set some serious time aside when they could indulge) but once it started they were all so excited.

And the occasion? Just because. Just because she wanted to do something nice for the kids. Those are always the best surprises.

Brenda decided to record and edit a short thank you video, and to the end of that I added a brief interview with Andrew where he discusses the various new Skylander characters.

We love you Aunt Shirley! Thank you so much from all of us.
